With a bag containing only 3 clubs and a few plastic balls, Mike’s love for the game of golf began at an early age. As he grew older, he practiced more and began to play as often as possible.

We knew he was serious after a window or two were shattered by an errant ball hitting the house. One such time, he professed that he was chipping the ball away from the house; only to have it hit the tree, bounce back and smack the window 30 feet away!

Mike became passionate about golf his freshman year of high school. He was a junior in high school when he was diagnosed with leukemia and could no longer play on the team. While in the hospital, Mike gave golf lessons to his doctors, nurses and therapists. He enjoyed telling them stories and sharing his passion for the game and his dream to play again.

In honor of Mike, our Foundation will award two (2) $500 scholarships to graduating seniors who best exhibit the qualities of his character; courage, compassion, perseverance and strength in the face of adversity. Any high school graduating senior from Mesa County is eligible to apply.
